Dr. LaShinda Hughes

Dr. LaShinda Hughes is a professional educator with a viable knowledge of educational administration and supervision. She possesses a background of experience in elementary education with a concentration in School Leadership and Special Education. Dr. Hughes percolates excellent communication skills with an invigorating yearning to foster a shared vision through collaboration with students, faculty, parents, and community members that promotes teacher and student growth.

Dr. Hughes’ plethora of educational experiences have afforded her the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders to meet the common goal of developing the whole child through increasing student achievement and well-being. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all students can learn given a positive learning environment that fosters inquiry, relentless and competent leadership, and a steadfast and pedagogically astute educational team. This is undergirded with a caring community and supportive family.

Dr. Hughes received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from The University of Memphis in 2005. She returned to The University of Memphis where she earned her Master’s Degree in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership in 2010. Dr. Hughes moved forward with obtaining both her Education Specialist Degree in 2013 and her Doctorate Degree in 2016 from Union University. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Junior League of Memphis. She has served on the board for The Porter/Goodwill Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis and also served as a Church Health Center IGive Committee member. Dr Hughes is a New Memphis Institute Fellows alumni and her most recent notable achievements include, but are not limited to:

Dr. Hughes is passionate about the advancement of the City of Memphis through our youth and young adults. She enjoys the fine dining, amazing music, and culture that inhabits the city. She also enjoys spending spare time with family, watching the Memphis Grizzlies, and embracing the many artistic talents within the city.
